Garter, grit & a skyspace

Danish textile designer Helene Jensen trained in print, fell for machine knitting and now divides her time between teaching and designing, with workshops that have taken her to Japan for the past three years. Her ideas arrive from unexpected places, from a leather bag and the embroidery technique sashiko to a certain Peaky Blinders wardrobe, while her latest experiments go straight to the source, drawing raw fleece directly into thread before knitting and fulling it. Members can read the full story, including the challenge she believes contemporary knitting has barely touched and what she thinks separates a knitted piece worth keeping from one that fades with the season.
