Maker Without a Map

A bag rarely knows what it wants to be before it exists. Irene Hoofs, founder of KOEL Magazine, works from a heritage atelier in Faro, Portugal, where a half-finished piece waits beside her more often than a plan does. Her crochet bag is built without a pattern, shaped by instinct, a color that catches her eye, or a detail she never intended, and the conviction that the best things are made, not designed. The leftover yarn became a matching pillow.
