The Basics

Cast-On…. Casting on is the process of creating the initial stitches on your knitting needle that you will use to start your knitting project.

The Knit and Purl stitches … are the two fundamental stitches in knitting. Follow the steps in the illustrations below to aster these to slightly different stitches. 

A pattern made out of ‘Knit Stitches’ alone is called a ‘Garter’ pattern. Using Knit stitches on one side (row) and ‘Purl Stitches’ on the other side (row) makes a ‘Stocking’ stitch pattern.
