Start The School.
One skill. One table. Suddenly, a community.
In Brixton, Melanie Bowles set up a three-meter embroidery table and invited strangers to sit down. She called it The Supper Cloth. People came, stitched, slowed down, and came back. What started as one woman sharing what she knew became Stitch School, one of London's most quietly radical creative businesses. We interviewed her for KOEL and haven't stopped thinking about it since.
The model is simpler than it looks. A skill you already have. A space that fits a table. People who have been meaning to learn something with their hands for years and never quite found the right room.
You don't need a studio lease or a teaching certificate. You need a craft you love, a willingness to share it, and someone to show up first. In our experience, that part is easier than expected. People are hungry for this. They just need someone to open the door.
Your yarn skills are worth more than your stash. Pass them on.
